Wow - what job don't I have should be the real question. Currently I'm the web content coordinator for Journal Broadcast Group in Boise. I oversee 4 radio station websites and 2 television websites. There are so many things happening in the realm of internet and broadcast media (both radio and television) that it is difficult to pick a place to begin talking about it. I'm new to this position as of January and all I can really say is that I plan to be at the forefront of big changes ahead for Journal Broadcast Group and its web presence in Boise for 2011. In addition to my primary work with Journal, I have a training and development company (PinPoint Performance Solutions) and business networking group (Treasure Valley Consultants' Network [TVCNet]). I'm currently in the beginning stages of shifting the focus of TVCNet from a regional organization to a national brand that will support, educate and promote consultants and freelance professionals.
What do you do for fun?
I don't do anything too crazy or interesting for fun, however I enjoy being in the outdoors, spending time up in Stanley hiking or fishing. I also enjoy movies and try to get out as much as possible to see a new film or two. It's a little hard to do these days because my wife and 4-year old don't necessarily have the same taste in movies as I do.
What was your first “real” job?
I worked in my parent's retail clothing store in my hometown of Salmon, ID while I was in High School. In addition to that job I also worked as a DJ at the local radio station (KSRA).
Awards and accolades?
None to speak of, really. However, I graciously accept awards, accolades, praise, etc. (hint)
Any interesting or milestone projects/experiences you’d like to share?
I would say that my career as a whole has been interesting and quite an experience. I've been fortunate to work in broadcast media and work with top companies such as Albertsons and Hewlett-Packard. I've had jobs that not too many people have had the opportunity to work in and with each job I learned something new about myself and how businesses function. To me, that has been extremely valuable. Most people spend years going to business schools and I feel growing up in a family of business owners and working for top companies gave me the education equivalent to an MBA. Not knocking people who have MBA's and studied hard for them, but when you live it you receive what's more commonly referred to as a real-world education.
Why CCC?
I've been involved with CCC in the past and was impressed with how dynamic the group was. I always enjoyed being a part of it in the past. While I worked with HP a few years ago, scheduling conflicts wouldn't allow me to participate so I let my membership lapse. Now that I'm in a different role, I have the time to get involved once again and I'm looking forward to making a positive contribution.
